Thank you!

What a year! Here's a HUGE THANK YOU to all who participated, planned, helped and celebrated the 25th anniversary of St. Charles Community College. The collaborative, campus-wide effort included students, alumni, faculty, staff, administration and the community, led by SCC's 25th Anniversary Task Force. The celebration, which started in April 2011 (25 years since voters created the community college district) with a kick-off week and ended in June 2012 (25 years since the first SCC classes were held) with a tree planting ceremony and the Silver Social event.

Thank you for sharing your stories of success and your memories of the college's early days.

Ron Chesbrough, SCC president, shared his 25th anniversary thoughts during the June 2012 events and on his blog. "This is a special time in the history of St. Charles Community College," he said. "It is a time to reflect on the magnificent success and steady growth of the college through its first 25 years, and it is a time to look ahead with hope and expectancy to the next 25 years."

A few more 25th anniversary memories - Enjoy!

Silver Social

SCC recently celebrated the end of the 25th anniversary year at the Silver Social on June 22. SCC Food Services provided a delectable menu of light dinner, appetizers and desserts. They also had a mocktail bar, complete with virgin strawberry daiquiris, Bloody Mary's and champagne.

There was trivia and music from the past 25 years, with prizes given out every half hour. There were two Minute to Win It games, one involving balloons and another with cookies.

Remarks were given by Peggy Schreiner, public relations coordinator and 25th anniversary task force chair; Hal Berry, professor of history and theater and member of the 25th anniversary task force; and SCC President Ron Chesbrough. The 25th anniversary shadow box was revealed.

After a year of celebrating the college's 25th anniversary, the Silver Social was a fitting end. Check out the photos below.

The delicious food!

Tree Planting

The SCC 25th anniversary task force planted 100 tree seedlings in just over an hour for the Living Green Expo coming up on June 16!

If you haven't heard about it, the Living Green Expo will be a fun-filled day of interactive, family-oriented exhibits designed to educate people of all ages about how to be more green. It's from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, June 16, in the new red parking lot on the SCC campus.

There will be activities and prizes for the whole family, including free electronics recycling, art projects, free tree seedlings, and appearances by "EVie," an electric truck from the St. Louis Science Center, and the 2012 Chevy Volt, as well as other hybrid vehicles. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit

Plus, there will be a 25th anniversary commemorative tree planting ceremony at 10 a.m. The 25th anniversary committee will also have a booth at the expo, and that's where the 100 tree seedlings come in – that's right, we will be giving away 100 free trees to anyone who attends the Living Green Expo! So be sure to check it out!

In case you're wondering, the tree seedlings are witch hazel, which looks like this:

We will also be handing out 25th anniversary wildflower seed packets. Fellow blogger and SCC grounds supervisor Dan Porter is hosting a friendly competition to see who can grow the best plants from the seed packets. Read his blog to find out more about the contest.

Hope to see you all at the Living Green Expo on June 16! And be sure to stop by the 25th anniversary booth for a free tree (while supplies last)!
